Receptionist / Volunteer Coordinator
I am a retired ice skating instructor of 36 years, and have been volunteering with Agros since November 2001. My first Agros service team trip to La Esperanza, Guatemala, was October 2001. I was so moved and inspired by the work Agros was doing with the families in La Esperanza that I wanted to learn more. Volunteering has given me an insight to the great work Agros is doing by serving poor families in Central America and Mexico.
Over the years I have done a variety of things in the Agros office on a part-time basis. For a few years I managed the logistics and pre-trip trainings for service teams until the volume of teams continued to increase and a full-time staff person was needed to manage the program. Currently you will find me at the reception desk on Mondays and Wednesdays greeting our guests and answering the phone. I also manage the volunteers for our Tierras de Vida event.
My experiences in Guatemala and relationships with the families in two Agros villages have changed my life forever. I have had the privilege of seeing the progression and successes of the families in La Esperanza from the very beginning of their village to being very close to having all the families pay off their land loans. The families in La Esperanza and La Bendición have become dear friends, and I am grateful to see how their lives have improved over the years with the great work of Agros.
