Agros Blog

The Agros Blog

Here at Agros we are focused on long term results. Our development model is designed to enable the rural poor to develop long-term assets for themselves, breaking the cycle of poverty for generations to come. Because of this long range view, we are also focused on long term relationships. Good relationships are essential at every step of our development process, and because of this, we’ve launched this new website to deepen our relationship with you.

The “Agros Family” extends across five countries in Central America and Mexico, and we realize that connecting you to the extraordinary people who live in Agros villages is very difficult. Short of actually taking a trip, how can you see and hear firsthand from the families we serve? How can you get a better sense of their challenges, hopes, and dreams?

Today, because of the advances of easy-to-use and inexpensive technology, we now have the ability to keep you connected with video, with photos, and with stories published at this blog. Our hope is that this blog will be of real service to you, and you will come back again and again to share and participate in the transformative possibilities of Land, Hope, and Life!

We will never assume that technology can replace face-to-face relationship, but in some small way we hope this website will educate, inspire, and challenge you to action on behalf of the poor! So poke around a bit, visit our video gallery, our photo gallery… read about how our Development process works.

We also recognize that some of you reading this blog may be new to the world of blogging in general, and so here are a few tips to help you along the way…

What Is A Blog?

Blog is a shortened word for ‘weblog’. A blog is simply a collection of postings (stories, news, updates, etc) arranged in chronological order, or sorted by category. We will be using this blog to keep you regularly informed, inspired, and up to date with the work at Agros.

How Can I Find Specific Posts?
If you look to the right, you’ll see a variety of categories. If you click on any category, it will bring up a list of postings that are specific to that category.

How Do I Subscribe?
You can subscribe to a blog using “RSS” (Really Simple Syndication), which is a form of online publishing. RSS is, essentially, a ‘webfeed’ of the posts in your blog, going out to whoever subscribes. Users can subscribe to a blog by using an RSS feeder, and in fact, more and more web browsers (ie, Firefox, Safari, and the newest version of Internet Explorer) have built in RSS readers. In fact, an increasing majority of websites use RSS to keep their users up to date. Check to see what RSS support your browser offers, or do a Google search on RSS feeders, and you’ll be off to the races!

David Davenport Responds:

Sean, I am so impressed by the new web site and blog. It is terrific to get up-to-date information on what is going on at Agros and in the villages. For a long time I have been visiting the site but have been disappointed at not finding anything new (or even recent). Glad you are on board and I’m looking forward to coming back and visiting often.
