Just a quick update… there is a lot going on here at Agros – we’ve been busy with several fund raising events; several staff are away at regional staff workshops in El Salvador; we’ve had some very productive Board retreats; and perhaps the most exciting recent news: Agros is moving forward with a new village – Espinal Buena Vista in Chiapas, Mexico. The long, hard, but ultimately transformative work of building their own economically sustainable village has begun for the villagers of Espinal Buena Vista. More info on this soon.
In other news, I will be leaving tonight (Saturday) for a 2 week trip to Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. The goal of the trip is to continue to document – via both photo and videography – the various stages of the Agros development model.
We’ll initially be spending time with a community in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. These families are in the training and selection process to potentially start a future Agros village. Because our work is focused on long-term strategies and results, based on the essential ingredients of true sustainability, relationship, and trust – it is essential that the families of a new potential village have the opportunity to learn who Agros is, and vice-versa. I can’t wait to meet these families, to hear of their dreams and to see firsthand how Agros can help facilitate the realization of what they hope for.
We’ll then be busing to Nicaragua, where we’ll be in two communities – one that is approx one year old (El Eden), and the other close to 6 years old (Futuro) respectively. This will be to document the development process in action, in both initial and middle stages.
We then fly to Guatemala, and will be traveling to the Ixil and visiting the thriving village of El Paraiso – a community that has journeyed through the Agros development process and now owns their own land.
I will be live-blogging the journey as much as possible, with photos and perhaps a few video clips. Keep checking back…
